The Carroll County Health Department is encouraging smokers to write “Dear Me” letters. “Dear Me” is a statewide campaign that utilizes letters real people write to themselves about their reasons for smoking and their innermost desires to quit. If you wrote a letter about smoking to yourself, what would you say? Please read the following “Dear Me,” letters written by Carroll County Residents: ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )

Dear Me,

I really do want to quit smoking. Lost my mom to lung cancer and I don’t want to do that to my kids. I’m hoping to quit soon. Life has recently started calming down and soon I hope my stress level will be down enough to try again.

Sincerely, Me

Dear Me,

I would love to quit. Being that I have tried everything, I would be willing to try about everything. Especially with my daughter having asthma. Outside or not, it is a horrible addiction.

Sincerely, Me

Dear Me,

I need to quit smoking because my dad died from lung cancer and I don’t want to be next. I should stop because I would like to be able to breathe when I chase my kids around, and I can’t catch my breath like I should.

Sincerely, Me

Dear Me,

I really need to quit smoking due to I really want to be healthy when I’m 30 and have kids. It’s not a cool thing to do, even though everyone is doing it. Although I only smoke 1 pack a week it’s not healthy for my body. So from this day on I will be setting goals to quit.

Sincerely, Me

Dear Me,

I would like to quit smoking soon. I would like to quit for my children. I no longer want to do this to my body. I do not want my children to start smoking because they think it is cool, because it’s not. It is a bad habit and I would like to end it.

Sincerely, Me
